My husband has been a gym addict since before I met him. It was in fact some photos of him doing a bodybuilding competition that first made me think ‘ooo he’s a bit of alright!’ After talking to each other on facebook for a while it soon blossomed into what would be Mr and Mrs Raynor and my life of being the wife of a bodybuilder began. You can read about our wedding here.
Being the wife of a bodybuilder is bloody hard work. There has to be serious commitment on both parts. He often says that there is three of us in our marriage, me, him and the gym. I just have to accept that. Obviously, as his wife, I’m going to support him no matter what but it can be really tough sometimes.
He diets for four months before a competition. For the first two months or so it’s not all that bad but towards the end, I have to put up with constant mood swings and feeling like I have to tread on eggshells. I try not to take it personally but sometimes it’s hard not too. He’s just hungry, really hangry! Not to mention I never really see him as he’s either at work or in the gym.
His diet is strict, so much so that he absolutely cannot deter from it. No matter how much he really craves a bowl of cereal or a ham and cheese sandwich he always sticks to plan. His determination and commitment with this is definitely something I admire about him. He has amazing willpower. Something I wish I had when it came to sticking to a diet.
Sometimes he works long shifts and then has to go to the gym to train. Getting in late, the last thing he wants to do is prepare his meals for the following day so I would do this for him. He would have six meals a day at set times. The same thing, every day! Boring I know! I don’t know how he copes! Chicken and rice, chicken and rice. Mince and potato, mince and potato. Eggs, eggs, eggs! You get the gist. This was also really annoying for me as I find it hard to cook for one person. I would find myself eating quick and easy meals which I totally blame for why I put on 3stone during my pregnancy. Your fault John! 🙄
Back in September, he did a show called Mr Lincolnshire. From this, he got given an invite to attend Mr Britain IBFA. Prepping for a show is more hard work than us ladies prepping for a night out! Heres where being the wife of a bodybuilder really puts me to the test by helping him shave, veeting his entire body and not one but two spray tans! It’s a very high maintenance sport!
He competed in this last week where he came 3rd in his class. Although the last 14 weeks had been tough, I had never been so proud of him. He looked amazing that day and I am so proud of him. And lucky that I get to be his wife. Sorry ladies but he’s all mine!
Here’s a few cheeky pictures of him at Mr Britain 2017 . Your welcome 😉
